The curse of the lallorona - weeping woman

In Mexican folklore, La Llorona signifies The weeping woman, is a legend about the ghostly soul of a women who kidnaps the children and drowns them in river.
Multiple variations of the story exist as in oral tradition the most common of all is as follows.

In a rural village in Mexico, lived a beautiful young girl named Maria. Though she was poor, she was known around her village for her charming beauty. It is said that the most precious of all stuff is her eyes. miscellaneous soilers asked for her hand in marriage, but she refused everyone. One day, an extremely wealthy nobleman was riding in his horse through her village and suddenly stopped in his tracks seeing Maria. He had travelled all over the world and had never seen such a beautiful girl as Maria before. He was fascinated by her. Maria was also easily charmed by him. so when he proposed she immediately accepted. eventually they two married and gave birth to two sons. Everything went on very well first. with their two children they seemed to be a happy family together. Since her husband was always travelling, he stopped spending time with his family. And when he returned home, it was only to visit his children. Maria could recognise that her husband was falling out of love with her because she was getting old.                                                                                                      One day he returned to the village with a younger women of his own wealthy class. Ignoring Maria he bid farewell to his children.Maria, angry and hurt took her children to the river and drowned them in a blind rage. Then she realized what she had done. she searched down the bank of the river, but they were long gone. Maria started weeping and drowned her self, knowing what she had done. After her death, she was not granted entry to Heaven unless she found the lost souls of her children and brought them to Heaven.

In the other variation, she is tricked by a demon, who told her that her son's souls were lost, but she would be granted entry to heaven if she found the lost souls of her children and brought them to Heaven where they belonged to. The demon knew that her son's souls were already in Heaven and she would be stuck in the land, crying constantly for the sin she had committed, trying to find her sons forever. After a long time without able to find her sons, her grief and desperation to just able to die and be at peace caused her to start taking other children's souls by drowning them in river.
La Llorona kidnaps children who are wandering around before dawn, mistaking them for her own sons. She drowns the children she kidnaps, and take them to heaven hoping to get in. She begs God for forgiveness, but to go she needs to find her children. People who have seen her tends to say that she would appear besides the river in a white dress only in the dark searching for her children. Among her wails it is noted as "Ay, mis hijos!" Which means "Oh, my children!" and "¿Dónde están mis hijos?" Means,"where are my sons?"

One who hears her wails are said to run in the opposite direction of the sound.
